Addiction: The Hidden Epidemic

by Pam Killeen

Addiction: The Hidden EpidemicOne of the biggest risk factors for developing addiction is depression. Over 90 percent of people suffering from addiction and 70 percent of people struggling with depression do not seek treatment. While there are several reasons why this happens (stigma, lack of insurance, etc.), one reason is because they know that conventional treatment approaches have not proven to be very successful. Thanks to some progressive new testing procedures, clinicians are able to diagnose a very real, biochemical basis for mental disorders and addiction, which can be reversed using nutritional protocols in conjunction with conventional psycho-social therapies.

Since the dawn of civilization, man has always been drawn to addictive substances or activities, but something is very different today. In comparison with any other time in our history, we are living in a highly addictive environment. Several variables are contributing to the unprecedented rates of addiction that we are seeing today including malnutrition and our chaotic lifestyles.

The goal of the book is to help provide people with a better understanding of the underlying social and biochemical reasons why we are seeing so many problems with mood disorders and addiction today and what we can do in order to resolve them so that we can protect future generations.
